Phalanger: PHP.Net

Oh, the language wars will continue, but as things move along it looks like you’ll be able to target .NET using any language you want, be it C#, VB, C++, Java (J#), ColdFusion (BlueDragon), Python (IronPython), and … PHP. And with Mono, you can run it on Linux/Mac, as well (yeah, ok, it’s still not perfect, but it’s there…).

For those of you who have been holding out on digging into .NET, this may be a good time to look at it again.

We are in the process of releasing Beta 2 of Phalanger v2.0 - The PHP Language Compiler for the .NET Framework. We’ve made many improvements and fixed a number of bugs since Beta 1. The major feature of Beta 2 is the possibility to integrate Phalanger with Visual Studio 2005. The integration package will be available very soon!

Phalanger v2.0 runs on .NET Framework 2.0 and finally supports full .NET interoperability. It means that you can directly use or extend any .NET class; be it System.Xml.XmlDocument, System.Windows.Forms.Form, or System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList. We also support delegates, events, generics, and even some basic LINQ.
